Substitute Office - Classified

For classified substitute applicants, the instructions for applying to the district are similar to the instructions for application for regular employment. Classified Assignments
All classified assignments may require additional duties and may be altered at any time to suit the needs of the school and the district. There are four main areas of classified assignments.

School Assistant/ Playground (SA)
These positions help to support our faculty and staff in areas such as playground supervision, assisting in the school office or library, or helping in the classroom. Any assignment may cover more than one area of responsibility. Assignments usually last 2-4 hours.


  • Ability to calmly handle emergency situations
  • Ability to follow precise directions
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to work well with faculty, staff, students and the public
  • First aid certification is desired
  • Prior experience working with children desired

These positions will place you in a classroom setting providing assistance to one or more teachers. Since these jobs will vary greatly from location to another, it is difficult to list specific responsibilities. All paraeducator positions will include a close working relationship with a classroom teacher and one or more students. Paraeducator positions commonly require assisting students with varying degrees of physical, mental, or developmental disabilities.

  • Ability to act and work independently
  • High level of maturity in dealing with difficult students
  • Ability opt follow precise instructions
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • First aid certification desired
  • Prior experience working with children desired

Registered Nurse
Substitute Nurses will be asked to take over the functions of the school nurse including administering first-aid to students and faculty and distributing medication to students.

  • Current State of Washington Registered Nurse license
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications
  • Ability to remain calm in emergency situations
  • Ability to work well with upset injured children
  • Ability to maintain confidential/sensitive information
  • Ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English
  • Ability to lift students if required
  • Prior experience working with children is desired

These jobs cover a wide range of office positions in all of our schools as well as the different administrative offices. Assignments typically last 6-8 hours.

  • Knowledge of general office procedures
  • Ability to read, write and speak effectively in English

  • Ability to work well with co-workers, students and public
  • Maintain confidential information
  • Word processing/keyboarding of 40 WPM minimum is desired
  • Prior office experience is desired
