Dear Frank Love Families,
I am ho
nored that I have been appointed as principal at Frank Love Elementary for the 2014-2015 school year. As your new school leader, I am eager to learn about the many traditions, accomplishments, and successes about Frank Love. I know that our school has many unique needs, including being a kindergarten center. In the next few weeks, I am planning to meet with the staff, as well as you, because I believe that families and the community are a critical piece to ensuring the academic and social/emotional success of each child.
Until I have the chance to meet all of you, I would like to take the opportunity to share some information about my background. I am a graduate of Woodinville High School, and attended Bear Creek, Leota, and Timbercrest. Some of my favorite memories growing up include biking along the slough, swimming at the Northshore YMCA, and being a part of junior high and high school choir. In many ways, I feel like I am coming back home to the Northshore community. After high school, I graduated from the University of Washington and received my Master of Arts in Teaching from Brown University. While it's been a long time since I have sung in a performance, I do currently enjoy running, playing tennis, and spending time with my family.
I believe that having a clear instructional vision and continually reflecting on student learning is central to any successful school. I began my career as an elementary and middle school teacher in Seattle Public Schools and in New York City. Later, I became an instructional coach where I helped to design and implement district curriculum and provide professional development for teachers. These experiences helped me to find my passion for ensuring that all students, at every grade level, in every classroom are learning.
With my belief that strong instruction is at the core of student learning, I also believe that strategically engaging communities is the only way to support all the needs of a diverse group of students. Most recently, I have been the House Administrator at Roxhill Elementary designing partnerships that address social and emotional learning, provide after school enrichment and tutoring opportunities, and support families in engaging with schools to support the success of each child.
At every opportunity, I try to live my life based on my core values, one of them being the belief that high-quality public education is paramount to achieving social justice. We, as community members, must strive to nurture, guide, and inspire children to see themselves as scholars, as leaders, and as important members of our diverse society. I believe Frank Love is a place where this goal can become a reality for our children.
As your principal, I will be collaborative, communicative, and consistent. I plan to meet with the community so I can hear what your hopes and dreams for the students at Frank Love are. Please consider meeting me at the PTA meeting next Thursday, June 12 for a brief meet and greet at 7:00. Additional opportunities will follow. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org . I look forward to partnering with you throughout the year to ensure that every student at Frank Love feels success, each day, during the 2014-2015 school year.
