"The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."

Dr. Seuss

The Kokanee Library is an inviting, resource-rich place where students and staff can find the information they need to be successful. The library boasts over 12,000 books and materials available for students, staff and parents.  These items can be located using our OPAC (Online Patron Access Catalog) which is available outside school through this site (click HERE).

We have a diverse collection of materials that are located in six sections of the library:

  • Nonction (Dewey #000-999):
  • Fiction/Novels (F):
  • Picture Books (P)
  • Just Right Books (identified by colored tape):
  • Graphic Novels (GN):
  • Beginning Chapter Books (BC):

The library utiliizes the latest in educational technology. We have 11 desktop computers that students use to access our library catalog, online resources, and work on individual projects. Being adjacent to the computer opens up additional opportunities to individual students and large groups to access technology and library resources without ever leaving the building. The library also is the home to the school's media equipment and a state-of-the-art instructional area with a laptop, projector, and interactive whiteboard.

Students have scheduled library times weekly as well as individual access before school, and during open lunch recesses as staff are available.  Each class has a 45 minute block of time, where they come to the library for a 30 minute skills lesson and a 15 minute checkout.  Books are checked out for one week (novels for two weeks) and can be renewed.

The library collection is funded through district-allocated budget, bookfairs and PTA support.

The program is run by Mr. Putnam who is a certficated teacher-librarian as well as a group of dedicated parent and student volunteers!
