This is the FACS site. I have taught at NJH for 26 years. I will be posting calendar dates for such activities as student's presentations, assignments and project requirements.
8th Creative Cooking is a class for beginners or students with outside food preparation experience. We do a variety of recipes and occassional "box mix" days... a student favorite. A Chef Research project will be required and may be done with a partner. A poster of the chef and their background is required as well as the preparation of a recipe of that chef's for the class to sample. The students are required to do 15 home cookings of their choice by the end of the semester. In addition a packet is done during class time.
Grades are based on performance during lab days, their chef presentation, home cookings, packet work and final test.
9th Gourmet Foods has been an all-time favorite class since I started it 4 years ago. It is an Oc Ed class and sastisfies 1 semester of that high school graduation requirement. We will be exploring recipes through the use of spices from around the world. Students hopefully have had prior cooking experience.
Students will be doing a "Region of the World" foods research project and presentation. This project requires a poster of the region and the preparation of a recipe for the class during class time from that region.
Twenty (20) home cooking labs of their choice will be required and I also ask each student to occassionaly bring in some ingredients for their recipes.
Grades are based on performance on lab days, World Region presentation, home cookings, some packet work and a final test.
